Richard and Margie Irland selected H & H to install two SolarSkies collectors on their south facing roof for domestic water heating. This drain back system features an eighty gallon solar storage tank with built in heat exchanger IMC Eagle 1 solar control with display. System components are 100% American made products. H & H upgraded the homes' piping from the water main to the newly installed Hillenbrand water softener. A new softener ensures a longer life for both the solar hot water system and household appliances and faucets. Key to this installation was a convenient internal pipe run composed of abandoned galvanized stove pipes we located in an interior wall space cavity. This... Continued...

Plumbing and HVAC students on the Pipestone Campus learned to how to get started down the green path with solar energy on January 28, 2008. Presenting to the class was Kurt Koegel of SolarSkies from Starbuck, MN and Scott Williams of Bisbee Plumbing & Heating in Marshall, MN. Koegel discussed and introduced the newest technology in solar panels especially as used in heating hot water. The construction and installation of the panels was explained to the students as well as the opportunities in this growing field.

Minnesota Got Its Green Mojo Back [www.treehugger.com]

"Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty recently announced initiatives to encourage solar, wind and other renewable energy projects at the local level and to reduce global warming emissions...He proposed four changes, including one to authorize local governments to issue $10 million to $20 million in revenue bonds to provide low-interest loans to individuals for "microenergy" projects. Those might include installing solar panels to produce hot water, geothermal equipment to heat and cool homes or businesses, or small wind machines to power homes, farms and schools."
